putting the publictransit in publictransit

hello spectators of publictransit. you may be wonder. "how come this site is called the publictransit but never actually talks about the public transit? hmm?" well i am here to prove you'ur'e statemebt WRONG! because now we are talking about public transit! wauw!!!!! if you guys do not know what public transit is, it is basically free or cheap modes of transportation for everyone to conveniently get to local places faster or as quick as private transport. examples of public transit are: bus systems within a city, subway systems, i cant think of any other ones. non-examples of this are: taxis, commercial airplanes, charter busses, trains, i cant think of any other ones. this is the end of the introductory paragraph. i hope you like reading this essay.

so far this table of contents is not that necessary but i will put it here anyways

CapMetro Bus - Austin, Texas, USA

i've rode this bus one time and that was when i went to a football (foobaw) game. not a fan of football but from what i can remember, the bus was quite decent. like any normal bus basically. and it is reliable! i would take the bus to my school if there was a safe way to take the bus between two highways. see that is the problem! blow up all the highways and then we can use busses. solid 6/10 bus system, nothing special about it but it is quite reliable since it took my mom to work for a couple of years. now she uses a bicycle. cool mom

CapMetro Rail - Austin, Texas, USA

haha more like crapmetro rail amirite fellas? haha. but in all serious this public above-ground railway system is actually kind of crap, it's underfunded, it's located in a car-centered metropolitan area, but at least it looks cool. me personally i've never had a reason to go take the metro which is quite sad because i am a known lover of publictransit, but imo the austin area may be a little too small to have a dedicated train system. the train cars look nice and modern though! 3.5/10

Charm City Circulator, Bus System - Baltimore, Maryland, USA

i did not take this bus while staying in b-more but i did have the pleasure of learning that it is completely free! it says it on the side of the bus! also extra points for it being located in a walkable city, and it is very useful for the downtown area! also extra points for having a nice name. not every day where you see a bus named the charm city circulator. unless if you live in the charm city yourself, of course. 7.5/10. would ride if i ever went to b-more again

Charm city Circulator, Water Taxi - Baltimore, Maryland, USA

automatic 10/10. splendid idea. incredibly convenient if you need to get across the inner harbor instead of going around it. and it is FREE! and you get to see DUCKS too! and the operators of the bus are actually quite nice!!! charm city circulator water taxi, i love you. you're going in my will

Deutsche Bahn ICE - Germany

Nightmare. Deutsche Bahn is just a nightmare. All of it. Every damn DB train. DB NEEDS to get their shit together, it is ridiculous. The entire country runs on DB (it was state-owned for a long time, also part of the reason it's in such terrible condition now) and DB is just horrible. Extreme delays, cancellations, air conditioning not working, power being out in multiple cars, are just a few of the side effects of DB. Consult your doctor if you have ever had the opposite of pleasure to take Deutsche Bahn because you will need it to compensate for the damage that it does to your nervous system. The feeling of dread and stress of finding out you couldnt make your 30-minutes-delayed connection train because your train to get there was 2 hours delayed and then finding out you have to run 5 platforms over with your suitcases and backpack in sweltering heat to make it to a train thatll take you 5 hours longer to get to your destination and has the AC in all its cars permanently stuck on high is not something I'd wish on my worst enemy. 0/10

MTA Bus System - New York City, New York, USA

i haven't taken it as much as the subway but it is very useful when you need to get to somewhere that is not located along the subway system. also you're more likely to sneak onto the bus for free than to do the same thing on the subway. ehhh 8/10? because they have another breed of bus called the long bendy bus and i think those are cool. also i like the seats on the back because they are cool

MTA Subway System - New York City, New York, USA

yeaaaa man this is what you think of when you hear the words public transit. so cool. subways are cool. i like it when the lady says this is the brooklyn bound c local train. the next stop is 181st street. and then when the guy says stand clear of the closing doors please. and then the train wheels go waerrrrrr errrrr eeeeeeeeeee errrrr. so cool. in my personal biased opinion this is the best publictransit that exists. 10/10. maybe even 11/10. S tier for sure

Salzburg AG Salzburger Lokalbahn - Salzburg, Austria

I've taken this countless times and it's quite a nice trip! Takes about 40 minutes to get from the center of Salzburg to the surroundings (furthest stop is roughly 30km away) and it goes through forests and across nice green meadows. Some of the trains are a bit old and therefore can be a bit bumpy and shaky at certain points along the way but other than that it's pretty smooth sailing railing. My only complaints are that the ticket prices are pretty steep (5-6€ for a one way ticket when last I checked!) and the trains tend to get very overcrowded around rush hour, which is understandable, but the problem has not been mitigated at all in the past 5 years and in fact often the trains at rush hour are shorter than those at less busy hours! This is not a very hard problem to solve, though I would be open to hearing a good excuse from Salzburg AG. Please send me an explanation to trainvis@publictransit.neocities.org. 7/10
